Total Defence Day 2010

Total Defence is a holistic concept of national security. Total Defence is what protects the people we love, the things we treasure, and the place we call home. This is achieved through five aspects – Military Defence, Civil Defence, Economic Defence, Social Defence and Psychological Defence. These five aspects represent the key sectors of society and allow us to strengthen Singapore’s resilience as a nation.

2010 Hildan TD objectives are:

- To Inform, Involve & Inspire

- To encourage Hildans to think about what they will do, make a pledge to do it

-To get everyone involved in this effort, inspired by the concept of Total Defence & reflect on the NE messages

3 strategies engaged for TD 2010.:

- 3 ‘R’s – Rationale, Relevance & Reach

- To be subtle & avoid coming across as “hard sell”

- To Involve every Hildan

This year, pupils are treated to 5 engaging activities simultaneously. The 5 defence stations are:

1. “Building The Future With Our Hands"
At this station, pupils will cut out their handprints and use them to write down the reasons they care about Singapore. These handprints will be collected and displayed outside the classrooms.

2. “Let’s make a Montage Together”
Pupils will be given different coloured cards to write their individual pledges on. Cards will be put together on the wall outside the Oasis.

3. "Snapshot"
“Snapshot” will provide pupils with opportunities to take a photo, to visualize and appreciate what it was like to walk amongst soldiers and emergency workers.

4. "N.E.mation"
Multimedia screening of N.E.mation clips will be held at the Canopy Area and pupils will answer questions based on the animations.

5. War Food
All pupils will get a taste of war food such as porridge, sweet potato, tapioca, dry biscuits, etc.

Pictures can be viewed here! In the meantime, log on to www.iwill.sg to make your pledge today!
